Overview
Neurodegenerative diseases are conditions that cause the progressive loss of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This can lead to problems with movement, thinking, and behaviour. There are several types of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Symptoms Include
- Loss of memory and cognitive abilities
- Movement disorder (e.g. tremors, muscle stiffness)
- Behavioural disorder (e.g. agitation, depression)
- Muscle weakness and loss of coordination
Treatment
There is no treatment to completely cure neurodegenerative diseases. However, some medications and interventions can help slow the progression of the disease and alleviate symptoms. It is important to talk to a doctor or mental health specialist to find the most appropriate treatment.
