Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia that primarily affects older people. It is characterised by the progressive loss of memory and other mental functions. Alzheimer’s disease can lead to changes in behavior and increased dependence on help for daily activities.
Symptoms
Early signs of Alzheimer’s disease may include:
- Difficulties remembering recent events
- Performing simple tasks, or finding words.
- Memory loss can worsen and other mental disorders may occur, such as confusion, agitation, depression and hallucinations.
Treatment
There is currently no treatment to cure Alzheimer’s disease. However, there are medications that can slow the progression of the disease and relieve symptoms. It is also important to provide a safe environment and support the person with the disease and their family.

- Offer your support and understanding to the person with Alzheimer’s disease and their family.
- Pay attention to the person’s needs and offer help with daily activities if needed.
- Encourage the person to stay active and participate in activities they enjoy.
- Pay attention to their safety and that of their environment.
- Be patient and understanding when the person has difficulty remembering or expressing themselves.
- If you are close to a person with Alzheimer’s disease, take care of yourself and seek support to help manage stress and emotional exhaustion.
